Do You Need an Apple Mac to Use iCloud?

I was sent a question from a student named Virginia who wanted to know if she could use iCloud on her computer, even though it wasn’t made by Apple.
Is it possible? Yes, it is, but you need special software which you can download for free.
If you have iOS 5 or higher on an iPad or iPhone, you have everything you need to use it there once you’ve created a free iCloud account. On a Mac computer the software is already there as long as you have Mac OS X 10.7 (a.k.a. Lion) or 10.8 (a.k.a. Mountain Lion). You just need to open the System Preferences and go to iCloud.
On a Windows computer, you won’t be able to use iCloud on Windows XP, but if you have Vista, Windows 7 (or in time, Windows 8) you can use the link I posted above to download the iCloud Control Panel software.
I’m working on more in-depth iCloud lessons which I’ll be adding to the iPhone tutorial app in July.
First will come an audio lesson explaining overall what “the cloud” and iCloud are, followed by step-by-step video lessons!
